Fernandez Rallies from Set Down to Defeat Siniakova
Leylah Fernandez of Canada came from a set down to defeat Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday to win the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open.
Fernandez, who is ranked 40th in the world, rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the second set to level the match. She then broke Siniakova's serve in the seventh game of the third set and held on to win the title.
"It feels amazing," Fernandez said. "I've been working really hard for this and I'm so happy to finally get my first title of the year."
The victory is Fernandez's third career WTA title. She previously won the Monterrey Open in 2021 and the Palermo Open in 2020.
Siniakova, who is ranked 45th in the world, was playing in her first WTA final since 2020.
The Hong Kong Open is a WTA 250 tournament. It is the first WTA tournament to be held in Hong Kong since 2019.
