D-Day 80 Commemorations Announced
Events Planned to Mark 80th Anniversary
Shuttle Service to Operate During Anniversary Week
In 2024, Normandy will commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the largest amphibious invasion in history. A range of events will be held throughout the year, including a national commemorative event on June 6th. On June 6, 1944, Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, marking the beginning of the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany. The operation, known as Operation Overlord, involved more than 156,000 troops and was a turning point in the Second World War. To mark the 80th anniversary, a range of events will be held in Normandy, including: * A national commemorative event on June 6th, attended by world leaders and veterans. * A shuttle service that will run from May 13th to September 30th, 2024 (excluding June 6th), to transport visitors between the D-Day beaches and other commemorative sites. * A series of exhibitions and educational programs about D-Day and its legacy. The D-Day 80 commemorations will be an opportunity to remember the sacrifices of those who fought and died in the invasion, and to celebrate the liberation of Europe from Nazi tyranny.
