St. Louis Cardinals Acquire Pitcher Kyle Gibson

Veteran Right-hander Bolsters Rotation

Gibson Joins Cardinals as Free Agent

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed veteran right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson to a one-year contract, the team announced today. Gibson, 35, joins the Cardinals after spending the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Gibson, a former All-Star, has compiled a 94-95 record with a 4.44 ERA over 11 seasons in the major leagues. He has pitched for the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, Phillies, and now the Cardinals.

The Cardinals were in need of starting pitching depth after losing Jack Flaherty to a shoulder injury and Miles Mikolas to a forearm injury. Gibson is expected to slot into the Cardinals' starting rotation behind ace Adam Wainwright.

Gibson's signing is the latest move by the Cardinals to address their pitching staff. The team has also signed veteran reliever Andrew Chafin and traded for left-handed starter Matthew Boyd.

The Cardinals are hoping that Gibson can provide them with innings and stability at the back of their rotation. Gibson has a history of being a durable starter, having averaged over 180 innings per season since 2017.

The addition of Gibson gives the Cardinals a solid veteran presence in their starting rotation. He is a proven winner who has been a key contributor to several playoff teams. The Cardinals are hoping that Gibson can help them contend for a World Series title in 2023.
